What Are Past Students Saying
“Once Amanda taught me the 7 basic strokes of calligraphy/hand lettering I soared! With her continual teaching through her FB page I have learned even more...like how to hand letter using crayola markers among other writing devices. Lettering led me into watercoloring so I would have a place to use the lettering. Amanda loves to see her students soar.”
— Vicki R.
“I joined Amanda's FB group for beginners at the end of September 2020 and have just completed the October affirmation challenge. I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and so happy with my progress. The skills worksheets, live skills practice sessions, video tutorials and gentle critics from Amanda have really helped to improve my technique. I'm far from perfect though, so I'm excited to get more practice and further hone this skill with her new workbook. I wholeheartedly recommend the FB group and the workbook to anyone who's interested in learning modern calligraphy and creative handlettering.”
— Polly W.
“Your videos are very helpful and just the way you broke it down made so much more sense to me than other videos I’ve seen before.”
— Aubri M.
FAQs
Can I learn calligraphy on my own?
With the abundance of resources online, one CAN learn calligraphy on their own, however, it will take a lot of trial and error to figure out which tools and styles best suits you. There are so many different ones that it can become overwhelming at times.
If I can learn calligraphy on my own, why do I need a teacher?
Calligraphy is not just a visual art to learn. It involves aural instructions and hands-on, practical, kinesthetic learning, as well. Having a teacher who can break down the fundamental steps and explain it to you WHILE you’re learning is markedly more helpful than just copying what you see in a short 30-second video.
Why do I have to pay for a teacher when there are TONS of FREE videos online?
Yes, there are free resources, but having someone actually look at your work, and not watching a recorded feedback on someone else’s work and troubleshoot with you the finer points is priceless. Videos are essential tools in the learning, but having a dedicated teacher who will walk you through the steps, including how to hold the pen, to coming up with relatable analogies to your specific situation is essential. I have dedicated the time to learn calligraphy and am prepared to guide you down the right path, and avoid some of the pitfalls. As calligraphy has so many different aspects and components, finding the right fit will encourage you to continue on your journey.
